On 16 October, Minister of Science and Education Jurgita Petrauskienė signed a decree which granted Klaipėda University the right to perform recognition of foreign qualifications.
Until now, nine universities in Lithuania have been authorised to perform academic recognition of foreign qualifications: Vilnius University, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas University of Technology, ISM University of Management and Economics, Aleksandras Stulginskis University, The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Mykolas Romeris University and LCC International University.
The decentralisation of the system of academic recognition of Lithuania initially started in 2012. It will allow to speed up the rates of admission of international students. The authorization to recognize qualifications is awarded by the Ministry of Science and Education following an evaluation of high school proposals by a special commission.
