Important information for holders of foreign qualifications applying to study in Lithuania

We invite holders of foreign secondary qualifications who are aiming for admission to state funded places in the Lithuanian universities and colleges to apply with our office for recognition and conversion of grades. Starting from this year, all applications to the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) should be submitted online at https://epe.skvc.lt/.

The following foreign qualifications are recognised automatically without any additional recognition procedures. 

  • European Baccalaureate Diploma awarded by the European Schools (additional information is available at https://www.eursc.eu/en);
  • Qualifications of the Republic of Latvia awarded since 2019: 
    • Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību
    • Diploms par profesionālo vidējo izglītību;
  • Qualifications of the Republic of Estonia awarded since 2019:  
  • Gümnaasiumi lõputunnistus
  • Kutsekeskhariduse lõputunnistus.

Holders of the aforementioned qualifications do not need to apply for recognition. However, those who are competing for a state funded places, should still apply with SKVC for conversion of grades. 

It should be noted that impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the systems of education will be taken into account when assessing foreign secondary qualifications awarded in 2020. Cancelled school leaving examinations and/or reduced number of the examinations will not become an obstacle to recognition of secondary qualifications in Lithuania.

The decisions regarding recognition and conversion of grades for foreign secondary qualifications awarded in 2020 will be made by taking into consideration the admission conditions in the country of origin. If the qualification provides access to higher education without any additional requirements in the country of origin, there will be no obstacles to recognition of such qualification in Lithuania.

Please note that standard practices will be applied for recognition and conversion of grades for foreign secondary qualifications awarded in previous years. 

This year, the period for admission to Lithuanian higher education institutions has been extended for one month. The first stage of registration for applications will end on 18 August. Applications for admission to universities and colleges must be submitted through the in the information system of the Lithuanian Association of Higher Education Institutions for General Admission (LAMA BPO). Additional information is available on the websites of LAMA BPO and SKVC.
