First Years Of The Evaluation Of The Study Fields

2022-01-28

The past two years have been exceptional for the SKVC for a number of reasons. The recent years were the beginning of new type evaluation – evaluation of study fields which replaced former evaluation of study programmes.

103 decisions were made

Between autumn 2020 and the end of 2021, the SKVC evaluated a total of 18 fields of study in Lithuanian higher education institutions - colleges and universities. In total, 103 decisions have been taken on the evaluation and accreditation of individual higher education institutions, study fields and study cycle. The evaluated fields of study are carried out in 10 universities and 11 colleges.
All fields of study were evaluated by international teams of experts in order to provide an impartial view in a broader context than the national one.

Various of the different aspects

Overall the quality of studies in Lithuanian higher education institutions is sufficient, although there are areas which could be improved. The most important areas for improvement are: raising the level of scientific activity, conducting and integrating high-level research related to studies, academic mobility of teachers and students, development of didactic competences of teachers, the alarmingly declining number of students in some fields of study, and lack of providing feedback to students and social partners.
However, the experts also identify a number of good examples that they suggest sharing. Among the positive aspects, the experts point to the widespread implementation of internal quality assurance systems, good relations with the social partners, especially in the college sector, the material resources used for studies, such as libraries, lecture theatres, lecture halls, access to digital learning resources, and student support.
